All Island U-20 sevens draw

240

The first tournament of the under 20 calendar will kick off on the 16th and 17th of February at the Royal College sports Complex.

The All Island sevens tournament has been the pace-setter for the inter school rugby tourney over the years and it was evident last year when Dharmaraja College won the trophy beating Kingswood College in the finals 19-12. It was the first time in the 125 year rugby history of Dharmaraja that they managed to win a major trophy and this was achieved under the leadership of dynamic three quarter and Sri Lanka youth player Miyuru Hewawasam.

This year the reigning champs have been pooled in together with Wesley and Ananda. A total of 25 teams will take part in the tournament which will feature 8 groups. Last year’s league and knock out champs, Isipathana College will go up against S. Thomas’ College and Carey College while league runner up Trinity College will battle it out against C. W. W Kannangara and Dharmapala MV.

The St. Peters College juniors (under 18) team managed to secure the first trophy on offer for the 2013 rugby season, the All Island seven aside trophy and they will be grouped alongside Lumbini College and Maliyadeva College. Under 18 sevens runner up, Royal College will face Mahanama College and Royal College Panadura in their group matches.

Last year’s under 20 sevens runner up Kingswood College will be grouped along with Prince of Wales, St. Benadicts College and Lalith Athulathmudali.

All teams good to go

There were a number of teams which were doubtful of participating in the sevens tournament, however they have given confirmation and will take part in the sevens tourney.
