On the 3rd day of the Games Akalanka Peiris in his final event at Birmingham 2022, Men’s 50m Backstroke established a new Sri Lankan National Record with a time of 26.15 renewing his own earlier record of 26.24.
Peiris was able to upgrade his personal best and the National record by 0.09 seconds finishing 21st in the preliminary round though Sri Lanka’s semi-finals plan was missed.

Sri Lanka’s final event of swimming will be Ganga Senevirathne’s 200m Backstroke on the 4th day of the Games, tomorrow at 15:04 SL Time. She will swim in Heat 02, Lane 07.
At the end of Day 02, 01 World Record and 08 Commonwealth Records have been renewed at Sandwell Aquatics Centre whilst Australia is leading the medal table with a of 22 medals.
