Sri Lanka’s veteran spinner Ajantha Mendis who announced his retirement from international cricket in 2019, has been picked by Pearl Gladiators to represent them in the Qatar T10 Cricket League in its inaugural edition.
The Qatar Cricket Association has announced the Qatar Premier T10 Cricket League (QPL) to be played in the Gulf state with 6 teams this year (2019) from Dec 07th-16th at Asian Town Cricket Stadium in Doha. This will be the latest league that will be added to the busy franchise calendar; the league has been approved by the International Cricket Council.
Apart from Mendis, Sri Lanka national players, Ramith Rambukwella, Malinda Pushpakumara and Kithruwan Vithanage will also be part of the tournament. Interestingly, 3 players who were born in Sri Lanka but currently have also been picked under the base of Qatari locals.

Andre Berenger is a former Sri Lanka U19 cap who went on to represent UAE in the later years while Imal Liyanage captained Royal College in 2012.

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has been taken on board as brand ambassador for the tournament and the Qatar Cricket Association has partnered with a Doha-based agency, International Pro Events to facilitate the league.
