Sri Lanka Air Force SC defeated Sir Lanka Navy SC in a nail-biting 26-25 score-line to clinch the 2016 Inter Club Open Netball Championship.
After a brilliant 1st half, the Sri Lanka Air Force led by as many as 7 points with a score of 15-08 but Navy came back strongly in the opening few minutes of the of the 2nd half to cut the deficit to just two points. However they were unable to close the gap further as Air Force kept them at bay and with the last shot of the game Navy managed to make it 26-25 but it was a little too late.
The first of the semi-finals featured a number of current and former Sri Lanka players from HNB and Navy SC. The match lived upto its hype as both sides battled valiantly, but it was Navy who emerged winners with a tense 24-20 win.
In the next semi-final Air Force again showed their dominance with a 32-20 win against Ports Authority.
In the 1st quarter final the strong HNB side demolished Puttalam District Netball side 20-01, while they kept their opponents from scoring in the 1st half. The 2nd quarter final saw the battle of the heavyweights Army ‘B’ and Navy. After taking an early leading Army fell behind to Navy at half time. Navy kept on the good scoring form while under pressure from Army to win 23-18.
The 3rd quarter final saw Sri Lanka Ports Authority side defeating Play Ground ‘Blues’ 26-14 while one of the favourites Air Force SC steam rolled past Jaffna SC 22-07 to book semi-final slots.
