Air Force and Navy qualify for final showdown

218

Air Force SC and Navy SC recorded comfortable wins today to book their places in the final of the Sri Lanka Cricket womens division one limited over tournament 2015.

In the first semi final played at the Moors ground, Army SC won the toss and elected to have a bat first in what looked like a good pitch to bat on. But they didn’t help their cause with five of their batswomen running them selves out and eventually folding up for a paltry 120. Niluka Karunaratne troubled the Air Women in their pursuit of 121 and ended up with top figures of 4/10 but it wasn’t enough as Air Force SC cruised to a five wicket win in the 23rd over with Chamati Atapattu(49) leading the way.

In the other semi final, Colts CC won the toss and invited Navy SC to have a bat first at the MCA Grounds in Colombo. The move backfired as Navy SC racked up a massive 274/4 in their allotted fifty overs with Hashini Perera and Sashikala Siriwardena making half centuries. It was surprising to see Colts CC not making an whole hearted effort with their chase as they reached 150 for the loss of just five wickets to hand Navy SC a 124 run win and a place in the final. The Navy SC bowlers were economical while Harshitha Samarawickrama made an unbeaten 58 for Colts CC.
