AIBA Coaches Management System

AIBA (International Boxing Association) has introduced a comprehensive AIBA Coaches Management System in order to improve the quality and performances of Boxing coaches at all levels.

 The objective of the new system is to develop long lasting qualified coaches at all levels.  Under this new system all coaches will be graded as one star (International duel / Confederation level) two star (Continental Level) and three star (All International Level).

Sri Lankan boxing Association will take up this great challenge in hosting the 1 star course this year in Sri Lanka providing all aspired National level coaches to qualify themselves to dominate the international arena. 

The ABA has chosen 25 coaches to take part in this educating journey which will commence on the 27th January 2013 counting for 4 days further. Amateur Boxing Association will solely sponsor this event whilst it will be held at the Slimline gymnasium which is known as the largest cluster and house of boxing on MAS Intimates. This will be a four day course followed by a final examination which is open to 25 qualified National level coaches. 

 Ms. Christy Halbert the director of boxing resource center & a US Olympic coach will conduct the course who is equipped not only with skills but also with life time experiences in the international arena. She has used her background as an academic in sociology and a collegiate an athlete, to take multi-disciplinary approach to coaching & studying the sport of boxing. 

Christy Halbert coaches women and men, boys and girls, in the art and science of Olympic-style (amateur) boxing. She conducts courses in coaching Olympic-style boxing, in her role as a Level IV Coach with USA Boxing, and is an international instructor/coach with boxing’s International Federation, in her role as a 3-Star Coach/Instructor. She holds administrative appointments as Chair of USA Boxing’s Women’s Task Force, Chair of the Americas’ Boxing Confederation Women’s Commission, and Secretary of the International Federation’s Women’s Commission. Halbert has published and presented on coaching techniques as well as her ongoing research and observations in the sport.

This year along with Dr. halbert our national coaches will learn the universal language of boxing while enhancing their career which will help them to reach the mountain top of boxing. 

Speaking at this point Mr Harsha Kumara the President of Boxing Coaching Association of Sri Lanka stated that this would a great chance for experienced Sri Lankan National Level Boxers to reach to next level. He thanked International Boxing Association and Amateur Boxing Association for the support extended to Sri Lanka boxing.
