Sri Lanka drew to Cambodia in a highly contested game at Colombo in the 1st leg of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers 2027

Sri Lanka made a promising start to the game with showcasing a newly adopted style of play with interim manager Abdullah Altumairi opting to go with a possession based style of play which is a bit new to the Sri Lankan eye.

Due to the new style of play the golden army created way more chances than the Cambodian outfit, outplaying them in most phases of the game. But unfortunately due to not being efficient enough in the final third the islanders had to settle for a draw with all to play in the 2nd leg in Cambodia.

Sri Lankan winger Sam Durrant was the stand out player for Sri Lanka in both the halves as his dynamic play and trickery wide on the pitch created the most chances for the Golden Army.

The other positive shown by Altmuiri’s men was the organised defensive work shown by Jason Thayaparan and Jack Hinger as Both of them controlled the game with their impressive defensive work and effective decision making.

The Golden Army will fly to Cambodia with high confidence to grab the all important win to secure their spot in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.

The likes of Wade Dekker and Oliver Kelaart will be the players to look out for in the upcoming tie in Cambodia as both of  them will play a huge role in the attacking positions.

Also most importantly the Sri Lankan fans will be hoping to see the heartbeat of the team Aadhavan Rajamohan back at his best in the 2nd leg as Rajamohabn has the ability to turn things around in a flash for Altumairi’s men.

A win from the Golden Army will be pivotal not only as the islanders will book their place in the qualifiers it will also make a huge statement in the world of football with the promise shown on the pitch.
