Sri Lanka to host U19 Asia Cup in September

ACC Under-19 Youth Asia Cup 2019 will be held in Sri Lanka from 5th September to 14 September at several venues in and around Colombo. The tournament will feature 8 member-teams of the Asian Cricket Council.

The teams will be split into two groups of four teams each. Every team will play against each other within the group and the top two teams of each group will qualify for the semi-finals.

This year, the eight teams will be,

U19 teams of the five Test nations in Asia get direct qualification into the tournament while the other 3 teams were selected by the qualifier tournaments conducted by the ACC. Tournaments were conducted for the Eastern and Western region of Asia separately for qualification. UAE was given an exception on account of their qualification to the 2020 U19 World Cup while Kuwait became the second team to qualify for the tournament from the Western region. The qualification tournament held acts as a qualifier for the 2020 Youth Asia Cup too. The Eastern region will only get one slot this year which will be compensated in the 2020 edition with one slot less for the Western region. It was Nepal who grabbed the single slot for this year’s tournament while Hong Kong will join them next year in place of Kuwait.

The venues for the tournament will be Colombo Cricket Club grounds, P Sara Oval, R. Premadasa International Stadium, De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa, Nondescripts Cricket Club grounds and Marians Cricket grounds, Katunayake. 

The Finals will be played on the 14th of September 2019 at R. Premadasa International Stadium. 

India U19s are the defending champions of the tournament while Sri Lanka ended as the runners-up at the last edition. Sri Lanka last hosted the tournament in 2016.
