Sri Lanka ‘A’ registered a comfortable win over Bangladesh ‘A’ in the tournament opener of ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023.
Bangladesh skipper Saif Hassan won the toss and invited the hosts to take the first lease of the wicket at SSC Grounds, Colombo.
The right-handed duo Avishka Fernando and Lasith Croospulle opened the batting for Sri Lanka and they managed to provide the islanders a solid start, putting on a 51-run stand for the first wicket before the latter was dismissed for 31 runs.

Fernando and wicket-keeper batter Minod Bhanuka then built a 125-run stand for the second wicket, strengthening Sri Lanka’s grip on the game.
Bhanuka scored a crucial half-century while Fernando went on to smash a brilliant century for the hosts. Fernando stroked 133 runs off 124 balls with 13 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 107.26.
Pasindu Sooriyabandara (43), Ashen Bandara (36) and Dunith Wellalage (31) also contributed with vital cameos as Sri Lanka posted a mammoth total of 349/8 on the board in the allotted 50 overs.
Tanzim Hasan and Mohammad Naim opened the batting for Bangladesh and the pair gave the visitors a much-needed solid start in the run-chase, adding 69 runs in the first powerplay.
Sahan Arachchige and Chamika Karunaratne picked up a wicket each in quick succession, bringing the hosts into the contest. The wicket-keeper batter Zakir Hasan and skipper Hassan then rebuilt Bangladesh’s innings, putting on a 79-run stand for the 3rd wicket before Arachchige struck once more to dismiss Hasan for 23 runs in the 21st over.
The wrist-spinner Dushan Hemantha was introduced to the attack and in his second over of the spell, Hemantha managed to dismiss the dangerous Hassan who made an aggressive knock of 56 runs for the visitors.

Hemantha continued to trouble Bangladesh’s middle order, picking up two more wickets in two consecutive deliveries to push the visitors onto the back foot at 191/6.
There was some resistance from Bangladesh tail-enders, but the asking rate was too high for them to manage thus they were restricted to 301 runs, handing a comfortable 48-run win for the hosts. Hemantha and Pramod Madushan picked up 3 wickets each for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka will take on Afghanistan in their next game on the 15th of July at CCC Grounds, Colombo.
