ABA to host trails for ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships 2014

The Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) of Sri Lanka has organized a trail meet in order to select boxers for the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championship scheduled to be held from the 23rd – 25th November 2013 at the Royal College Boxing Complex.

The official draw will be announced at the venue on the first day of the tournament at 11am.

This Asian Youth Boxing Championship has been identified as the breeding ground for young talented boxers in the region, and presents a great opportunity for youth boxers of Sri Lanka to showcase their skill and make their mark on a more international stage. Male and female boxers were born in 1996 and 1997, and between the age group of 17 – 18 years, are eligible to compete at this championship.

To uphold the boxing standards of the country, only gold and silver medalists from the Stubbs Shield, Junior National Championships, Youth , Junior and School Boys Championships will be allowed to compete in this tournament.

A medical certificate taken within three months of the first date of the competition must be submitted on the General Weigh-In, scheduled to be held on the 23rd of November, which will be preceded by medical examinations for boxers from 8-10am at the Royal College Boxing Complex. The medical examinations and weigh-in on 24th and 25th of November will be held from 8-9am at the same venue.

This meet will be the final selection meet for boxers for the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships scheduled to be held from 24th to 31st January 2014 in Bangkok, Thailand. The selected boxers will be pooled at the designated boxing pool from 28th November 2013 – 23rd January 2014.
