ABA Men’s & Women’s Junior National Boxing Championships – 2014

The 13th Men’s & Women’s Junior National Boxing Championships organized by the Sri Lanka School Boxing Association and conducted by the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (ABA) is scheduled to be held from the 10th to 13th February 2014.

Commencing from 4pm at the Royal college Boxing Hall aiming to bring to the forefront the future of Sri Lankan boxing. The tournament is open for pugilists between the ages of 17-19, also permits schools and club level boxers to debut in all weight categories. The tournament will be conducted according to the rules and regulations of the International Boxing Association, and will be presided by Boxing Referees and Judges Association affiliated to the ABA.

Each club or school was allowed to enter a maximum number of 08 boxers per weight category. The winning team obtaining the highest number of points will be crowned Champions of the tournament and awarded the silver-plated Phelps Memorial Trophy. The Best Boxers and Best Losers receive special awards, while all winners, runners-up and semi-finalists will receive cups/ medals and certificates.

Last year Vidyartha College, Kandy won the Junior National Boxing Championship throphy. The second place was won by St. Sylvester’s Boxing Club. The Bandaranayake Madya Vidyalaya, Veyangoda won the Women Boxing Championship and Linea Boxing Club won the Second place. The Best Boxer-male of the tournament was A.S. Tuduwewaththa of Dharmaraja College, Kandy and the Best Loser-Male award was won by H.A.D.L. Hettiarachchi of Vidyartha College, Kandy. The Best Boxer-female was won by M.A.T.H. Jayathissa of Bandaranayake Madya Vidyalaya, Veyangoda and the Best Loser-female award was won by R.I. Jayarathna of the Linea Boxing Club.
