The first stage of rebranded CIMA Sports took place on the 29th of June 30, 2013 with the new title CIMA Games parallel to the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of CIMA students association.

The first event of games were a preparatory game: Urban Challenge. This is a game which had been featured in the CIMA sports day for the past 3 years. The rules stand that ‘every group should follow a set of clues which will lead to the final victory’. This can be best interpreted as a scavenger hunt in familiar terms. The clues aren’t necessarily helpful to the participants; they tend to be lost in puzzles while resolving these clues. Further the game was based on the prehistoric building within the Colombo city limits which enriched the participants’ knowledge. The game was improvised this year to allow the participants to use any means of transportation and communication methods to travel around Colombo and pass the any intelligence to the team members. Regardless of the lenient rules the participants were at a tough position with the new game design.

The main sponsor for the game was Yamaha Motors, who had provided the game not only with financial support but with other resources. For an example, part of the game was to find the right bike that fits the key to get the right clue.

Next up the game featured was Futsal, which was an attention driven playoff at the CIMA games. In real life terms it is most similar to the street football game. The CIMA version of football included two teams of each 5 participants aside playing with a ball smaller than the football on a tar court. Summing up the court, the ball and the team was smaller than that of a standard football game. The high no. of participants testified to the popularity of the game within the CIMA community. The teams ranged from Wisdom to Imperial to Achievers with more than one team representing each institute. Also representing the Cooperate firms -PWC and KPMG- teams took part in the futsal game. After batting in these tough circumstances Wisdom All Starts came on top winning the futsal championship.

Though the ‘street football’ was taking place the organizers as a professional body were keen on maintaining discipline while the game was going on. The code of ethics was thoroughly reviewed for the players to preserve the decorum of the game. The referees at the game were taking precautionary measures to prevent the game bouncing out of bounds.

Moving on to an accustomed sport the swimming events at the CMA Games was to help the professional swimmers to broaden their skill set and to perform in standardized atmosphere flashbacking school days. Ashen Fernando from Achievers, Imesh Mark from ICPS, Nadheesh De Silva and Pathum Edhirisinghe from Wisdom were some of the partakers who embraced the opportunity with new best performances. It took place at the Thrustan pool complex with the participation of many other individuals and teams. The swimming segment was organized for the third time.

In contrast to the previous years this time the talents of participating individuals saw drastic improvements. Still the number of performers was limited. This was a drawback which affected the team rounds chiefly. The relay events didn’t take place due to this issue. The organizing committee would like to remind the swimming enthusiasts to send the message across for the upcoming sports festivals to encourage the participants.

The basketball game consisted of 5 teams which was a slight push back from the expected 8 teams. The participating teams were Achievers A and B, Wisdom A and B and KPMG while Imperial and few others hadn’t been able to turn up due to unavoidable circumstances. The finals were held between Achievers A and Wisdom B where Achievers made the event champions. Commenting on the basketball team Azeem Ameen of the victory team mentioned that the event was viewed by many spectators compared to the last game which clearly symbolizes the improved attention CIMA Games 2013 has received. However remarking on the teams taking parting he also noted the turn up wasn’t as expected. The finalists of the basketball championship were Ruchira Thiwanka Ramesha Shamaaz Azeem and Waseem from Achievers A and Sajjad, Shakoor, Eesahn, Keshan, Shemal, Jimal and Nirojan from Wisdom B.
