Royal College took on Thurstan College today in Colombo and RC completely dominated proceedings ending day one with a clear advantage.
Royal batting first managed to get 225 runs on the board with Ronaka Ahangamage and Ashene Ramanayake blasting their way to fifties. Ahangamage managed to score 70 runs while Ramanayake top scored for the Royalist’s with a score of 82. Wicket keeper batsman Milan Abeysekera was also amongst the runs scoring 28.
For the Thurstanites Rajitha Perera and skipper Ramindu Kumarasinghe bagged 3 wickets each while all-rounder Minhad Jaleel ended his bowling spell capturing 2 wickets.
Thurstan then batting in their 1st innings were unable to keep wickets in hand as they ended day on, tottering on 98 for the loss of 9 wickets. It was a disappointing batting display by the Thurstan College batsmen who have shown their capabilities in the previous matches notching up some good scores.
Kavindu Kulasekera was the only batsman to make a telling contribution, as he ended his innings scoring 21 runs while the rest of the batsmen failed. Medium pacie Anupa Thilakaratne was the star for the Royalist’s as he ended with superb figures of 3/9. Spinners, Poorna Aluthge and skipper Devind Padmanathan continued their heavy workload with the ball this season grabbing 2 wickets each for 15 and 25 runs respectively.
