The most extravagant Futsal Fiesta in the history of one day Futsal tournaments in Sri-Lanka took place at the Colombo Futsal Club yesterday. The house witnessed a total of 24 teams playing in the Male category.
It is a widely known fact that Sri-Lanka possess more than adequate skill not only in the education sector but also in the fields of sports, art and fashion. Hence Benchmark was formed in order to create a platform for this skill widely spread mostly among the corporate sector, shine the spotlight on these under rated players and take their skill on a National and an International Journey.
The matches were played on a group stage with one qualifier in each group of the three teams with the qualified teams then stepping into the quarter finals, battling it out for the Futsal Fiesta Champions title.
After a full day of extreme thrill and unforgettable sporting moments to one and all of the players and the spectators, the two teams ROXY FC and SHOOTERS FC made it to the finals. Roxy FC consisting of Maldivian players and some commendable talent took on shooters FC who displayed a splendid performance. Roxy FC won the Futsal Fiesta 2015 Championship.
It is also noteworthy to mention that for the first time ever an exclusive women’s Futsal tournament took place along with the Men’s category. Team Pappadam were placed championship against The Interns after some really competitive ball.
Individual awards were awarded to the Best goalkeeper and the highest goal scorer in both men’s and women’s categories respectively.
Molten and Rulhum Sports graced Futsal Fiesta 2015 as the official equipment partner, Revolution Portfolio as the official photography partner and The Papare as the online media partner.
The Secretary General of the Football Federation of Sri-Lanka graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest and appreciated the efforts of Benchmark in enhancing the quality of the sport in the country.
