Thusrtan is one of the main schools who embraced cricket since the inception which dates back to 1950. This season it is to dish out some excellent cricket in the last battle of the brothers which takes place against Isipathana College. This will be a special encounter for them as this year will mark the Golden Jubilee encounter of the battle. Over 50 years of Thurstan vs. Isipathana have strengthened their brotherhood.

Thurstan has produced a number of national cricketers over the years. Niroshan Bandarathilake and Hemantha Botheju are the proud heritage that Thustan boasts of.

This season Thurstan has two main aims. It is to beat their counterparts in the interschool matches by remaining unbeaten and also to beat their arch rivals Isipathana, to clinch the Golden Jubilee of the battle of the brothers.

The 2012/2013 1st XI cricket team will be lead by the captain Ramindu Kumarasinghe. He is a 2nd year coloursman possessing a great personality. It is under his leadership that they clinched the runners up of the 2012 President trophy. He is a left hand batsman and has scored about 420 runs with one century and two half centuries. Also he shows prowess  as a right hand off spinner, totaling 17 wickets. The third year coloursman Rajitha Perera is the vice captain of the team. As a left arm leg spinner he has 30 wickets under his belt. Both of them are very experienced players as they play some club cricket as well.

It was the inspiration of Mr. Sanjeewa Silva, which keeps the standards of cricket at Thurstan College. It is no ordinary feat to lead a team towards the success from failure. Coach Silva has been instrumental in turning the team around with Thurstan making sound progress under his guidance. Being a product of St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa, he played his cricket from under 15 through to 19.  He is an experienced cricketer with 18 years of experience playing for sports clubs such as BRC, SSC, and also CCC.

All three departments of the game show qualities of a balanced cricket team.  Their strongest point is the run scoring thanks to the brilliant opening combo Minhad Jalil and Tharindu Kulasekara. Jalil who has scored 328 runs is an experienced player having represented Sri Lanka in a tour to India at U 17 level. Kulasekara is a fluent batsman who possesses a variety of aggressive shots. The top order batsman has scored 228 runs this season. Thanks to duo the batting department of the Thurstanites is stable.

Avishka Peiris who is a right hand batsman supports the score card as well. He scored over 140 runs which has added impetus to the batting of the side. Kavindu Kulasekara, a who has scored a solitary half ton this season is a valued right hand batsman who has accumulated 226 runs.

Leading in spin is Captain Ramid, a right hand off spinner who has totaled 17 wickets. Following him Thimira Jayasinghe, is a right arm leg spinner with 31 wickets to his credit. Minhad Jalil, SajithGunathilake, are also valued possessions triggering many disappointments in the batting line ups of the counterparts.

Thurstan team is handy in bowling too. Arjuna Radava, Pramodh Gunawardhane, Charma Nanayakkara are the match winning aggressive fast bowlers of the Thurstan 1st XI cricket team. They have extended a great service towards the victories of the Thurstan College.

The 1st XI cricket team of the Thurstan college has played  8 matches so far this season.  From which they have managed four 1st innings wins and lost three on first innings with no outright wins or losses, rain being the spoil sport of many games.

ThePapapre team wish them well
