Trinity College Kandy hosted Mahanama College Colombo today at the Asgiriya Stadium in an inter-school match in Kandy.
The host’s winning the toss had no hesitation to bat first and put on a stunner show with their top order firing from all cylinders to record 302 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Openers Bagya Palihawadana and Lakshitha Dassanayake gave a superb start for the Lions putting early pressure on Mahanama. Palihawadana had the better run out of the two slamming 66 runs. The Trinity top order batsman who bludgeoned a century against Gurukula last week continued his form ending on top, at the end of days play. Dissanayake who has been amongst the runs for the Lions as of late could not convert his innings in to a big one as he was dismissed early on.
Ron Chandragupta who has been middle the ball well this season notched up another half ton (75) ending as the highest run scorer for the Trinitians.
The vice captain and captain coming in at number 4 and 5 respectively contributed with two half tons with skipper Dinuk Wickramanayake being unbeaten on 57* at the time of declaration. Chamara Silva and Suranjana Seneviratne were the main wicket takers for the visitors grabbing 2 wickets apiece.
Mahanama College batting in their first innings were 101 runs for the loss of 2 wickets after having faced 29 over’s. Pawan Devinda was the top scorer for the visitors having ended day on 58* not out. He was joined by Thanula Wickramasinghe who was also unbeaten on 9 at the end of days play.
