St. Peter`s College, Colombo scoring 107 (17T 11C) thrashed CWW Kannangara as they only managed to score one try and out five points on the board at full time.
Peterites went into the game without their skipper Kevin Dixon who had to sit out due to an injury that he had suffered to the nose during a practice session. Vice-captain Nishon Perera led the side today at the home grounds yet again for another convincing victory. Both Avishka Heepalla and Raveen Yapa, the starting scrum-half and the hooker too sat out of the game and the replacements did put on worthwhile show at the lawn.
Peiris drew first blood inside the second minute. He was well set after a brilliant passage of play where the ball was passed hand in hand from Diyath to Kamesh to Avishka and ended up in the safe hands of Peiris. Sandesh Jayawickrama missed the conversion; Petes led the game 5-0.
Skipper for the day Nishon Perera opened up his account when he scored the second try of the game in the ninth minute. Winning the 10m line out and passing the ball wide across the field, it was just a matter of time when the Bamba lads created the lapse in the defense to score. Sandesh bisecting the uprights put the home team ahead 12-0. The third try of the game followed right after when Maleesha Rajapakse took the honors in ticking the score board. Nishon Perea kicking the third try off his boots bisected the uprights; Peterites were well ahead 19-0.
Even though the Peterites had the advantage of scoring early in the game their defense and the passing of the ball was a bit sloppy during the first half. The visitors invaded the Peterite defense line with good continuity in play as they worked the line and left the ball in the hands of Gihan Madushanka as he made no mistake in kissing the lawn. The visitors missed the conversion and trailed the Peterites by fourteen points as the score board read 19-05.
The home lads came back into the game right after the restart of play when they scored on the other end followed by two tries in quick succession by Avishka Ranasinghe. It was a pleasing sight to witness as they scored both the tries with good continuity in play; passing the ball along the line and making sure the defense collapse. Nishon converted one try while Sandesh bisected the uprights in the other. The foundation for a scoring rampage was set when the game was called off for oranges, melon and water.

Sandesh connecting the boots with the ball put the Petes up 81-05. Due to the absence of Kevin Dixon; Diyath Fernando was playing in the position of full-back and he seemed to have the same set of genes as Dixon when he scored the next try right under the post. Try being converted Petes were up 88-05.
Diyath scored his second try right after and was followed by the Number 08 Mark Silva who took the honors in scoring the try which shifted the scoreboard into a century. Sandesh bringing full value to the honorable try put the home team safely in the wining lands 102-05.
There was nothing much the visitors could have done for the mighty attack from the Peterites. They did give all from the word go and it was indeed commendable as they did not throw the game away even though the Peterites were one hundred points ahead. They tried and tried but well the luck was not on their side. Nishon Perera scored the final try of the game when the whistle bought the rain of tries to a closure.
