Ashen Madava’s 50 puts Maris Stella on top

Thurstan College Colombo, hosted Maris Stella College Negambo today at the Thurstan grounds in another inter school cricket encounter.

 

Maris Stella winning the toss had no hesitation in electing to bat first in a flat track. The visitors managed to bat through most of day one amassing 206 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 73.3 over’s. 

In form batsman Ashen Madhave scored a solid half ton to set up the total having good support from Thusitha Peiris who scored 31 runs. Madhava was the man stay batsman as the rest of the batting could not come to grips with a favourable batting track. 

For the home team it was Chinthaka Udaya who claimed the most number of wickets capturing 3 scalps for 54 runs. He was ably supported by Ravindu Kumarasinghe and Rajitha Perera who finished with figures of 2/52 and 2/34 respectively. 

Thurstan College batting in their 1st innings managed to score 44 runs at the close of play with 2 batsmen back in the hut. The home team batted for 14 over’s and will be crucial how they go about their batting during the morning session tomorrow. Minhad Jaleel, one of their in form batter was unbeaten on 20*.
