Former Secretary, President bring misery to SLC

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is set to face lot of problems after the International Cricket Council’s decision to hold back the money that was due for the board from the governing body.

SLC was set to receive a sum of US$ 12 million from the ICC, but last week following a Board Meeting, the ICC announced that it was holding back the money until an investigation is done on government interference in postponing the board elections.

Inside sources said that the board could feel the pinch and struggle to even pay the salaries of employees while the loans borrowed for construction of cricket stadiums for the 2011 World Cup could be stopped.

Sources added that one time President and a former Secretary of the board were persuading the ICC to hold back the money due for Sri Lanka.

The Secretary enjoyed unbridled power not too long ago and was seeking re-election this year. He had earned the wrath of both players and employees for his authoritarian behaviour.

The former President, meanwhile, is infamous for doing a Mark Anthony mere days after Sri Lanka’s historic World Cup triumph in 1996. He in fact emerged the winner in country’s most corrupt cricket election.

Incidentally both men had served in Interim Committees and their objection to the appointment of an Interim Committee has raised many eyebrows.
