Weather Gods Deprive Trinity and St. Anthony’s the 99th Battle

Persistant downpour of rain that prevailed during the morning prevented the second day of the 99th episode of the battle to proceed as planned leaving no choice for umpires but to call of the game.

 

The overnight pour of rain had moisetend the outfield and during the morning inspection by the umpires and the team captains, it was decided to hault play further for an approximate time 30 minutes. The weather conditions deteriorated further with no improvement leaving the two captains and the match officials to come to a decision to call off the game.

It was a tough decision to make but there was no option for both captains otherwise. This brought in heaps of disappointment to the fans of both parties who had come to witness at leat some cricketing action having been deprived or it yesterday. Both sides are planned to play a practise game most likely towards Tuesday to make up to the abrupt ending in order to be prepared for the limited overs fixture which will be played the coming Saturday at Asgiriya.

This had been the first occasion for the past decade where a game has been washed away prior to even two innings being played. With that the 99th encounter saw an abrupt ending as the countdown for the centenary fixture begins
