Club Cricket Summary – Tamil Union, Ragama and Bloomfield register wins to spice up group A

The penultimate week in the group stage of the SLC Premier League Tournament 2014/15 concluded on 22nd February with Tamil Union C & AC, Ragama CC and Bloomfield C & AC registering superb outright wins to ensure ups and downs of the group A points table.

The teams proceeding to the Super Eight stage are almost assured in the group B with SL Ports Authority, Moors, CCC and SL Army most likely to go ahead. Only NCC and Tamil Union have confirmed their places in the Super Eight stage from group A with Badureliya, Ragama and Bloomfield closely eyeing the final two spots. 

Colts vs Bloomfield 

Bloomfield came from behind to secure a close 3-wicket win over Colts at Bloomfield grounds. Fast-bowler Nuwan Pradeep’s 10-wicket match bag was the main highlight of the match.

Colts – 220 all out in 44.5 overs: Shehan Fernando 42, Ishan Jayaratne 39, Nuwan Pradeep 5/63, Vishwa Fernando 4/74.

Bloomfield – 119 all out in 45.2 overs: Nipun Karunanayake 29, Dilruwan Perera 5/26. Ishan Jarathne 3/31.

Colts (2nd inn) – 138 all out in 32.5 overs: Ishan Jayaratne 46, Vishwa Fernando 5/71, Nuwan Pradeep 4/50.  

Bloomfield (2nd inn) – 242/7 in 67.5 overs: Nipun Karunanayaka 60, Lahiru Madusanka 81*, Ishan Jayaratne 2/51, Ali Khan 2/48.

 

Ragama vs SL Air Force

All-round brilliant Ragama CC outclassed the Airmen by 171 runs at Moors grounds. Two centuries were scored by Ragama batsmen, Chanaka Wijesinghe and Nilushan Nonis. 

Ragama – 288 all out in 79.4 overs: Chanaka Wijesinghe 141, Malinga Bandara 46, Pishan Hewage 4/66, Sameera Wanigasekara 2/38.

SL Air Force – 159 all out in 42.4 overs: Lahiru Sri Lakmal 54* Amila Aponao 5/44, Malinga Bandara 3/45.

Ragama (2nd inn) – 232/6 declared in 45 overs: Nilushan Nonis 101, Eranga Rathnayaka 51*, Akila Isanka 3/69,Lasanda Rukmal 2/33.

SL Air Force (2nd inn) – 190 all out in 37.5 overs: Akila Isanka 59, Malinga Bandara 5/102, Sanjaya Fernando 4/32.

 

Tamil Union vs Badureliya

Tamil Union defeated Badureliya by 149 runs after conceding the first innings points at P. Sara Oval grounds. 

Tamil Union – 189 all out in 43 overs: Kieran Powell 40, Mohomed Dilshad 7/44.

Badureliya – 205 all out in 90 overs: Tharaka Waduge 51, Chanaka Welagedara 3/29, Chamikara Edirisinghe 3/65.  

Tamil Union (2nd inn) – 309/9 declared in 63.5 overs: Kithuruwan Vithanage 88, Ramith Rambukwella 52*, Imesh Udayanga 3/69, Mohammed Dilshad 3/57.

Badureliya (2nd inn) – 144 all out in 60 overs: Gihan Rupasinghe 45, Shaminda Eranga 4/32, Chamikara Edirisinghe 3/31. 

 

SL Ports Authority vs SL Army 

High-scoring match ended in a draw with SL Ports Authority finishing with first-innings points at CCC grounds. 

SL Army – 324 all out in 76.1 overs: Dilan Soysa 85, Shalika Karunanayake 52, Isuru Udana 3/45, Madushanka Ekananayake 2/32.

SL Ports – 521/9 declared in 132.2 overs: Dananjaya de Silva 116, Mahela Udawatta 89, Sachithra Serasinghe 103, Shanuka Dissanayaka 60, Nuwan Liyanapathirana 3/94, Ajantha Mendis 3/103.

SL Army (2nd inn) – 234/5 in 50 overs:  Shalika Karunanayaka 150*, Madusanka Ekanayake 2/30.

 

SSC vs CCC

CCC had to be satisfied with only a first-innings win against SSC at Maitland Place. Veterans, Chamara Silva and Hasantha Fernando slammed tons for CCC. 

SSC – 179 all out in 53.2 overs:  Binura Fernando 40*, Kaushal Silva 26, Lakshan Sandakan 4/36, Akalanka Ganegama 3/50, Arosha Janoda 2/34.

CCC – 406 all out in 106.5 overs: Chamara Silva 120, Hashan Dumindu 72, Hasantha Fernando 106, Binura Fernando 5/84.  

SSC (2nd inn) – 267/5 in 80 overs: Danushka Gunathilaka 75, Tharanga Paranavithana 73, Kavindu Kulasekara 55, Akalanka Ganegama 2/51.

 

Chilaw Marians vs Saracens

Chilaw Marians managed to secure a first-innings win over Saracens in their drawn encounter at FTZ grounds in Katunayake. 

Chilaw Marians – 314 all out in 118 overs: Kanchana Gunawardene 67, Sashrika Pussegolla 96,  Rajith Priyan 5/94, Prabath Jayasuriya 2/31.

Saracens – 221 all out in 51.4 overs: Upul Indrasiri 41, Umesh Karunarathna 44, Chanaka Komasaru 3/44, Lahiru Gamage 3/76.
