School Cricket Summary: Josephian Vimukthi and Peterite Lakshina blast centuries

Two 18-year old stylish right-handers, Vimukthi Peiris (SJC) and Lakshina Rodrigo (SPC) stroked two elegant centuries for their saint schools on another eventful Friday filled with school cricket action around the island. 

 

St. Joseph’s College vs St. Anthony’s College

Number 4 batsman Vimukthi Peiris stroked his first ever century in the under 19 division one level as he clobbered 141 against St. Anthony’s College in their 103rd annual encounter played for the Murali-Vaas Trophy at Katugasthota. 

After opting to bat, visitors posted a commanding 271 for 7 before declaring their innings. Apart of Vimukthi’s knock, skipper Pathum Madusanka chipped in with 43 runs. Off-spinner Dilan Bandara captured 2 wickets for the home team. The Anthonians were 34 for 2 before rain brought an early end on day one.

St. Peter’s College vs St. Benedict’s College

Lakshina Rodrigo and Sachin Dalpathadu slammed 132 and 87 respectively to help St. Peter’s post 306 for 7 before declaring in their under 19 division one encounter at Kotahena. 

Opener Dineth Thimodya’s half-ton laid the foundation for a mammoth score as the high-riding Peterites pummeled the Benedictines in their own backyard. Off-spinner Geethika Jayathilake claimed 3 wickets for the hosts.

Royal College vs Wesley College

All-round brilliant Royal College took control of their 122nd annual encounter for the Frank Gunasekara Shield against Wesley College at Reid Avenue. 

The second oldest inter-school cricket encounter in the island commenced when Jonathan Caderamanpulle won the toss and elected to field first. Randev Pathirana and Chamika Karunarathne stroked half-tons as they posted 235 for 8 declared and then found the visitors struggling at 89 for 8 at close of play.
