Migara does Sri Lanka proud at World Youth Scrabble Championship

Migara Jayasinghe student of Lyceum International School, Wattala won the Under-14 Championship at the 7th World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC) 2012,

 organized by the World English-Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA), which was held recently in Birmingham, United Kingdom .

Migara Jayasinghe won 14 games out of 24, with a margin of 642 and was placed 13th. This is his 2nd award at this prestigious tournament, the first being the Under-12 Championship in Manila, Philippines, in 2010.

From the 7-member Sri Lankan team, Lambhotharan Yoganathan and Hayati Rassool, also from Lyceum Wattala were placed 32nd and 45th, respectively.

This tournament attracted 60 players from 11 countries, including the UK, USA, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Trinidad & Tobago and Singapore. Michael McKenna of Australia won the Championship by winnin.g 18.5 games out of 24, with a margin of 1090.
