Anuradha, Nipuna wins women’s and men’s National Archery Championships

Anuradha Wijesinghe of Police Archery Club and Nipuna Senevirathne of Colombo Archery School bagged the women’s and men’s titles respectively at the 15th National Archery Championships.

Anuradha Wijesinghe led from the front in a dominant display but Nipuna Senevirathne had to ward off stiff competition to secure the titles at the Torrington Square, Ministry Grounds. 

Anuradha was ranked number one in the preliminary stages of the 70m Olympic round with a score of 580, while Mehek Sangani of Colombo Archery School and Shashikala Kumarasinghe of Colombo Archery Club who were ranked 6th and 5th at that same stage bounced back to win the Silver and Bronze medals respectively in the final stage.

Nipuna Senevirathne was placed second in the preliminary stages with 621, just nine points behind H.K.I. Perera. However Perera disintegrated in the final stage as Lakmal Rajasinghe of Police Archery Club and Peshala Kalansooriya of Ananda College Archery Club stormed through to win the Silver and Bronze medals after being placed 3rd and 4th in the preliminary stages.

In the 70m Men’s team event Gold was won by Police Archery Club while Silver and Bronze were won by Navy Archery Club and Colombo Archery School respectively. In the Novices Women’s 30m event H.N. Roshani, Dewmi Basnayaka and Shanaya Perera were placed 1st,2nd and 3rd respectively and in the Men’s Novices 30m event M.G.S. Bandara won 1st place while Lal Kumara and D.N.Gunarathne were placed 2nd and 3rd.
