Junior Boxing national Championship 2014

Organized by the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (ABA) the Men’s and Women’s Schools’ Nationals Championships is to be held from the 20th to 23rd Dec 2014 commencing from 3pm each day at the Royal College Boxing Hall. 

The tournament will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the International Boxing Association, and will be presided by Boxing Referees and Judges Association affiliated to the ABA.

The tournament is open for pugilists 18 and 19 years with the date of birth being used to determine age, which will be judged by the year of birth. This permits schools and club level boxers to debut in all weight categories. The winners of this tournament will receive school boxing colors and eventually will also be eligible to take part in major meets such as the Layton Cup, Clifford Cup and National Championships.

Each club or school is allowed to enter a maximum of 08 boxers per weight category in both the women’s and men’s division. The team with the highest number of points will be awarded the silver-plated Phelps Memorial Trophy and the Best Boxers and Best Losers will also receive special awards, whilst all winners, runners-up and semi-finalists will receive cups/ medals and certificates.

In 2013 the men’s division of this tournament was won by Dharmaraja College and the women’s title was won by Bandaranayake Madya Vidyalaya, Veyangoda. 

The Chief Guest for this tournament will be Mr Rukman Wekadapola a 3 star Referee and Judge of International Boxing Association and the secretary of School Boxing Association. The General public is invited to come witness junior boxing talent of the country come together to one ring.
