SSC and Colts take the early lead in respective groups

Sinhalese Sports Club and Colts Cricket Club recorded comprehensive wins during the 2nd match day of the Premier Limited Overs Tournament 2014/15 worked out at different venues on December 7th and both teams now lead the point’s tables of their respective group A and B.

 

SSC vs Tamil Union

Leg-spinner Sanka Ramesh captured his maiden list A five-wicket haul as SSC completed an easy 7-wicket win over Tamil Union at P. Sara Oval grounds. 

The hosts made only 130 as the 22-year old leg-spinner wrecked through their batting lineup. Englishmen William Tavare top scored for the hosts with 39. Tharanga Paranavithana scored an unbeaten half-ton to help SSC get over the line without hiccups.

Tamil Union -130 all out in 40 overs: William Tavare 39,Kasun Madushanka 2/30, Sanka Ramesh 5/24, Sahchithra Senanayaka 2/22.

SSC – 131/3 in 32.2 overs: Tharanga Paranavithana 50, Dimuth Karunarathna 30, Chanaka Welagedara 2/18. 

 

Colts vs Chilaw Marians

Former Josephians once again proved their metal at club cricket as Sadeera Samarawickrama and Roshane Silva slammed half-tons to help Colts CC beat Chilaw Marians by 34 runs (D/L method) at Colts grounds. 

As bad light affected the game and brought an premature end, the visitors fell short of their adjusted target. Sadeera was the top-scorer with 64 while Roshane scored 59. Left-arm spinner Chanaka Komasaru picked up 3 scalps.

Ragama vs Badureliya

Former Peterite left-hander Lahiru Milantha yet again scored a half-century as Ragama CC registered their 2nd consecutive win beating Badureliya CC by 6 wickets at Surrey Village, Maggona. 

After a superb bowling and fielding performance kept the hosts to 207, Lahiru and his senior partner Nilushan Nonis made half-centuries in a fruitful 121-run stand as Ragama comfortably got to the target which was completed by Chanaka Wijesinghe’s unbeaten 40.

Badureliya – 207/9 in 50 overs: Supeshala Jayathilaka 36, Milinda Siriwardana 28, Malinga Bandara 2/41, Nilanka Premarathna 2/51.

Ragama – 208/4 in 46.5 overs: Nilushan Nonis 51, Lahiru Milantha 75, Chanaka Wijesinghe 40*, Mohammed Dilshad 2/35. 

 

SL Army vs Saracens

Soldiers produced a clinical all-round performance to shut down Saracens by a massive 105 runs in a rain-affected encounter at Katunayake. 

Asela Gunaratne’s 48 was the main feature of Army’s total of 203/9 in 50 overs while Seekuge Prasanna took 2 wickets for Army which highlighted the game as Saracens were struggling at 77/8 when the match was stopped early.

SL Air Force vs SL Ports Authority

The Airmen stun the Ports officials by 3 wickets in a low-scoring encounter at Katunayake.

SL Ports managed only 91 runs all out and in reply SL Air Force lost 7 wickets to get to the target. None of the teams crossed the 100-run mark. Two left-arm spinners, Akila Ishanka and Malinda Pushpakumara starred with the ball for their respective teams.

SL Port Authority – 91 all out in 40 overs: Ishan Rangana 23, Sahan Jayawardana 2/14, Akila Isanka 3/12, Lahiru Sri Lakmal 2/09  

SL Air Force – 92/7 in 34.3 overs: Achira Eranga 22*, Malinda Pushpakumara 4/25.

 

Bloomfield vs NCC

Bad weather conditions prevented a result from occurring at Reid Avenue as both teams shared 2 points each due to a no result.

After the game was finally scheduled for 20 overs, the 2nd batting team could not get through to 20 overs and the officials abandoned the game immediately.

NCC – 85/4 in 13.5 overs: Jehan Mubarak 24*, Dinesh Chandimal 26*.
