Kingswood College scored an overwhelming 26 points to 2 over Trinity College in order to record their victory in the first ever Baseball Big Match encounter, at Asgiriya today.
It was the visitors who won the toss and elected to bat first, but Kingswoodians were dismissed before start scoring in their first innings. Only scoring attempt was done by Kasun Bandara and he had to be satisfied at the 3rd base until the end of their innings.
Chandeesha made the first attempt to turn the score board for Trinity. He was tagged out by the 3rd baseman Tharuka Dolawatta. D. L Sooriyapperuma scored the 1st run of the match and he was followed by Mohammed Aadil to drag the home team into a 2-nil lead.
Trinity was leading 2-0 at the end of the 1st innings
Pathum Bandara provided a solid start to Kingswood scoring the only home hit of the match. Using the provided adrenaline they scored huge 22 runs within the second innings. Fielding errors and lack of experience provided Kingswoodians with lot of opportunities to turn their score board. Kasun Bandara, Malinda Herath, Randika Wijerathna, Isuru Yapa, Pathum Bandara, Tharuka Dolawatta, Saluka Walisundara, Supun Bandara, Lakmal Senevirathna, Samitha Manawadu scored two points each and Isuru Withanage as well as Ishara Jayarathna scored one each for the second innings. Trinitians were unable to score any throughout their innings.
Kingswood had the lead 22-2 at the tea break
Kingswood scored 4 points for their 3rd innings and the points were earned by captain Randika Wijerathna, Pathum Bandara, Saluka Walisundara and Supun Bandara. Trinity again failed to score in the 3rd innings.
The match was limited only for 3 innings due to the massive lead.
