Carlton sports club ended day one of the Western Province rugby football union interclub rugby sevens tournament on a high winning all their matches on offer.
The tournament which is played for the Asian Finance cup saw 8 teams turn out for the main segment (Cup and Plate) while 16 teams compete for the Bowl and Shield categories.
Carlton sports club which have a number of National players in their ranks beat Air Force B in their first outing 24-5 and went on to win the next two games. Not only did they manage to win the three games on offer but they also managed to record the highest score of the day beating Navy Mahasen by 41 points to nil in their final group match.
Rohitha Rajapakse, Chua Susantha, Saliya Handapangoda, Jason Dissanayake, Dinesh Kumara and Sajith Saranga made up the numbers in the Carlton team which dominated day one.
The other team which impressed during the first day was the Air Force ‘A’ side which won all their matches. The Airmen managed to win against Petersons SC, Navy Gamunu and the Army B team and will no doubt trouble Carlton SC.
