Lumbini College overcame a fighting Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda to record an 8 wicket win. This incidentally is the 5th outright victory for Lumbini College and with that they head the under 19 Division 1 league table.
On a sunny day at the BRC grounds in Colombo, Lumbini College won the toss and elected to field first. Dharmasoka Colleges’ 1st innings did not span out as planned as the Lumbini bowlers made early in roads to stall the Dharmasoka innings.
Captain of Dharmasoka Raveen Tharindu anchored the innings with a magnificent 60 runs as Dharmasoka College was all out in the first innings for a moderate total of 155 in 50 overs. Sachin Devangana was the second highest scorer for Dharmasoka as he managed a hard fought 44. Thanuka Dabare was the chief destroyer with the ball as he bagged 4 wickets alongside Chanaka Devinda who also incidentally bagged 4 for Lumbini College.
Lumbini College left hand opener Thanuka Dabare guided the Lumbini innings as he managed 33 valuable runs and helped Lumbini College to a respectable first innings score.
Right hand middle order batsmen Tharushan Iddamalgoda played a massive role as Lumbini managed to go passed the Dharmasoka first innings. Tharushan Iddamalgoda scored a scintillating 97 and was just 3 runs short of a marvelous century as he ran out of partners at the other end.
Lumbini College ended their first innings with a score of 194 on board as they managed to beat Dharmasoka’s first innings score. Tharushan Iddamalgoda was not out on 97 while opener Thanuka Dabare scored 33 runs. Isuru Chathuranga managed to pick 4 wickets for Dharmasoka while Raveen Tharindu and Ishara Mendis bagged two wickets a piece.
Dharmasoka’s 2nd innings was rather disappointing as they only managed a further 133 runs as the Lumbini bowlers kept at them and restricted the batsmen. Captain Raveen Tharindu was yet again the highest scorer for Dharmasoka as he made a solid 40 runs.
Chanaka Devinda was the pick of the bowlers for Lumbini as he scalped a generous 3/45, while Thanuka Dabare and off spinner Mohommad Akram bagged 2 wickets a piece for Lumbini College. Dharmasoka set a rather dismal target of 94 for Lumbini to win the match.
Lumbini College reached their target within the allotted overs for the day while they lost only two wickets in the process. Thanuka Dabare led the chase with an unbeaten 69, while Mohommad Akram managed 21 runs.
