Asian International School and Lyceum, Nugegoda emerged champions of the Inter-International Schools Under-17 Basketball Championship worked off at Colombo International Schools courts on Monday.
Lyceym, Nugegoda beat Lyceum, Wattala in the girls’ final by three points. The winners were leading by 12 points at the end of the first half. The score was 27-15. But Lyceum, Wattala fought back in the second half to cut the deficit and went down fighting 46-49.
Pavani Ranapura of Lyceum, Wattala was adjudged the Best Offensive Player, while Dinadi Diddeniya was declared the Best Defensive Player. Sandali Puja Liyanage of Lyceum emerged the Most Valuable Player.
Asian International School were the dominant team in the Under-17 age group having previously won the All Island Schools Championship. They had an easy win over Royal Institute in the Inter-International Schools finals.
AIS were leading 48-18 in the first half and won 75-45.
Pasindu Tharaka of Royal Institute, who top scored for the losers, was named the Best Offensive Player, while Damshika Piyasena of AIS was the Best Defensive Player. Tahir Akbar Ali, who emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the All Island Under-17 final came up with a repeat performance winning the award again.
