D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo won the overall championship and the ‘A’ team championship at the Inter School Squash Championship, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Squash Association. This tournament was held at the Indoor Stadium of St. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia from September 26-28.
This was the first time that the Senanayakians were able to secure this overall championship. The Senanayake lion clubs took the arena this year under the training of Coach C. H. Thalagala with Ravindu Hashintha Laksirige, the national champion of 2013, leading the team. Mrs. Tamara Wanniarachchi is the teacher-in-charge of the game of squash at the College.
In the first round, the ‘A’ team of the D. S. Senanayake College defeated the Thomian team with a 3-0 victory. In the semi-finals, the Senanayake squash team faced the team from St. Joseph College and achieved an easy win of 3-0. In the finals, the DS champs were able to secure victory and win the title by defeating the mighty Royalist team with a 3-0 victory.
