Sri Lanka’s rugby is focused on the sevens format, with the national side performing well in the Asian Seven series.  Sevens Rugby is named as the most rapidly developing sport in the world and its acceptance as an Olympic sport has injected massive life into the format.

The University Moratuwa, keeping with the same heat is organizing the Inter-Collegiate Sevens Rugby tournament, commonly known as ‘Mora Sevens’ for the 14th consecutive year. This year they have upgraded the tournament by shifting it to Havelock Sports Club grounds which will give much more recognition to this fabulous tournament. It will be worked off on the 22nd of October and a massive crowd is expected for this whole new university rugby experience complete with a Rugby Carnival and after party.

The significance of this event is that it is the one and only Sevens Rugby Tournament where both public and private Higher Educational Institutes will get the opportunity to compete with each other and it can be considered as the ultimate Inter University Sevens Rugby Tournament with the participation of almost all the public Universities and most of the other Higher Educational Institutes. This year the tournament will see new teams added to the list as it has grown into a calendar event of most of the Higher Educational Institutes in the country.

This glamorous tournament has seen many National and Club level Rugby players in the recent past such as Shehan Pathirana, Sudarshana Muthuthanthri, Arshad Jamaldeen, Jason Dassanayake, Ijaz Bohoran, etc. and many stars will participate in the tournament representing their respective institutes this year as well.  Sri Lanka Sevens player, Shehan Pathirana, is named as the ambassador for the tournament.
