Sachithra Senanayake is hopeful of making a comeback to international cricket after working hard on his bowling action. The Sri Lankan offspinner, who was reported during the ODI series in England in June 2014, was banned from bowling in international cricket in July 2014 after he was found guilty of possessing an illegal action.

Speaking to reporters after turning to play for his local employer in a local club tournament, Senanayake said, “I am hoping to return to play international cricket as soon as I am allowed. Its been 3 months since I was banned. I was granted to play in domestic games much later.”

Senanayake stated that he personally requested the umpires to bring to notice any oddity that he may possess in his action. There have been no issues raised so far and video analysts of Sri Lanka Cricket have been working hard with him since he was banned.

The ICC said that Senanayake would not be permitted to bowl until he had taken remedial action. He was sent for testing to the University of Western Australia. He said that he had been getting more bounce than before in the new action.

“There is a good in everything (being banned). I will face more tests to prove myself and hopefully I could return to international cricket soon,” he said.

The ICC have clamped down heavily on chucking in 2014. Bowlers like Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Hafeez, Shane Shillingford, Prosper Utseya, Sohag Gazi are some of the prominent bowlers who have been called for a suspect action.
