The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced the schedule for next year’s Davis Cup, for the Group which Sri Lanka belongs to; the Asia-Oceania Zone Group-I.
According to the ITF schedule, Sri Lanka will meet the Philippines from March 6 to 8, 2015.
The other ties of the Group-II for 2015 1st Round will be:
Lebanon Vs Chinese Taipei / New Zealand
Iran Vs Indonesia
Kuwait Vs Pakistan
Sri Lanka has never won a Davis Cup tie against the Philippines so far since their first meeting in 1958. At their last meeting, in Colombo last January, Sri Lanka lost 3-1. Sri Lanka’s prominent Doubles combination of Harshana Godamanna and Rajeev Rajapakse lost their match and Godamanna lost his Singles against Treat Huey sealing Philippines’ victory.
The 2nd Round of 2015 will be held next July. Out of the eight participating nations, only one will qualify for zonal Group-I for 2016 while two will be demoted to Group-III. Sri Lanka retained her Group-II position for a record fourth year by winning their third straight Relegation Play-off in Vietnam last April.
Last year, Thailand got coveted the Asia-Oceania Zone Group-I promotion while both Vietnam and Hong Kong faced relegation to Group-III.
