PMTS RANASINGHE of LINEA Boxing Club won the best boxer award along with the Layton cup Challenge Trophy. The 5 day boxing meet concluded on the 22nd of September at the Suagathadasa Indoor stadium, Colombo.
The meet which was initially one which had mostly and mainly boxing clubs from the forces today has evolved into a meet which is fiercely competed among corporate boxing clubs too. This year tournament too entertained the clubs of the 3 armed forces along with the boxing clubs from companies like MAS holdings, Unichela and Slimeline. This only helps in the development of the sport and the enthusiasm was nothing short of a packed stadium on the final day.
While Ranasinghe was awarded the best boxer title along with the Layton Challenge cup APCA Jayalath of the Sri Lanka ARMY emerged as the best looser in the Men’s Category while TM Weerasinghe of the ARMY won the best Women’s Boxer with KALU Kaushalya of the Sri Lankan Air force ending as the best looser in the women’s category.
The competition was one with much anticipation and support from the crowds too as the pugilists battled it out within the ropes. The talent on display was eye pleasing where many boxers possessed immense talent which will in return be a vast wealth for the countries sport which is in a gear of resurrection and development.
