India’s tour of England: Virat Kohli falters yet again!

New Delhi: Is there any way out for Virat Kohli to come out from his batting agony? The Delhi batsman failed yet again after getting out for a nought in the second ODI against England on Wednesday in Cardiff.

Kohli came into the crease after Shikhar Dhawan got out for 11 and after facing two deliveries he danced down the track to hit a boundary over cover but found the hands of England skipper Alastair Cook, who completed a simple catch. Kohli walked back to the pavilion, with the score reading 19/2. Just when India needed to build a partnership, Kohli’s rash shot put the visitors on the back foot early on.

Kohli’s short stay at the crease has been a story of the English summer and that has hurt India badly. After a dismal Test series against England, Kohli needed the ODI series to make up for the loss but he failed here too. Against Middlesex, he hit a well made 71 in the practice game but his application at the crease told a similar story that has haunted him in England this summer.

Kohli’s scores in the past 11 innings including Wednesday’s blip read, 1, 8, 25, 0, 39, 28, 0, 7, 6, 20 and 0. He has scored three ducks in the last 11 innings and has managed an overall 134 runs on English soil.

With the Australia series coming next, followed by the ICC ODI World Cup, Kohli needs to sort out his batting before it’s too late. With several other batsmen waiting in the wings, its perform or perish for the Delhi man.
