A couple of Decision Review System (DRS) went against Sri Lanka during the First Test match being played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. Sri Lanka coach Marvan Atapattu admitted that the lack of technologies such as Hot Spot and Sniko in DRS were a clear drawback for them.
“Those are some of the things that some may go your way and some the other way,” said Atapattu.
“It is something to do with technology and in time to come I’m sure the authorities will do certain things to make sure that the correct decisions are made. We got to be strong enough to take whatever that comes out of the third umpires,” added Atapattu.
Atapattu also described about different technology used in DRS compared to the England series.
“We found it very difficult. We came after a series with England where they had all the technicology, but here we are missing some of these. At the start of the South African series it was hard for us to digest. It’s beyond our control but we must get on with the game.”
The use of DRS is decided between the two cricket boards prior to the series.
According to Pakistan coach Waqar Younis DRS always improves the quality of umpiring and is helpful whether it has the equipment or not.
“DRS is helpful to umpires as we have seen. It can go either way also. But in the past some of the decisions were not very clear. I think it is helping cricket and the decisions,” added Waqar.
“To go forward and improve the game and improve on the decisions taken by umpires, yes we need all of these technologies. Some areas are still a bit behind but hopefully these things will be realised in the future,” concluded Waqar.
