NCC crushes neighbouring CCC by 117 runs

Nondescript Cricket Club registered their 4th outright win for the season when they crushed their neighbours, CCC by 117 runs in their week 6 match of the SLC under 23 division 1 tournament while Moors skipper Shehan Jayasuriya clobbered to another double-ton against Army SC.

NCC managed to score 194 runs in quick time early morning on day 3 in their game against CCC at Maitland place and set up a stiff target of 300 runs. Pawan Devinda blazed to 95 runs while Australian opener, William Bosisto scored 78 runs in his last innings for NCC during the current season. Lakshan Rangika captured 3 wickets for the visiting CCC outfit. Defending 299 runs, NCC bowlers toiled hard for their wickets but eventually they sent the CCC batsmen packing as they were all out for 181 runs with Tharindu Kaushal capturing 4 wickets and Aravinda Akurugoda claiming 2 wickets. Hashan Dumindu chipped in with 42 runs for the losing team. 

Chief Scores:

NCC (1st inn) – 279 all out in 82.5 overs: Lahiru Udara 56, Tharindu Kaushal 55, Lakshan Rangika 5/87, Chathuranga Kumara 3/28.

CCC (1st inn) – 174 all out in 52.5 overs: Janindu Isharaka 29, Tharindu Kaushal 7/57, Sandun Weerakody 2/16.

NCC (2nd inn) – 194/6 declared in 29.3 overs: Pawan Devinda 95, William Bosisto 78, Maduka Liyanpathiranage 2/19, Lakshan Rangika 3/76.

CCC (2nd inn) – 182 all out in 50.3 overs: Hashan Dumindu 42, Chaturanga Kumara 40, Tharindu Kaushal 4/70, Aravinda Akurugoda 2/07.

Dashing left hand batsman Shehan Jayasuriya proved his might once again as he hammered his way to his 2nd double-ton in the current season when he smashed 230 runs against Army SC at Braybrooke place during the 2nd day’s play. Shehan took only 169 balls for his knock of 230 runs and he hit 20 fours and 13 sixes during his blistering innings which helped his team post a commanding 403 runs before declaring their innings. Army SC lost 2 wickets in their 2nd innings when the play stopped and they will have to play hard if they are to survive the outright loss.

Teenager, Saminda Maduranga excelled for Ragama CC as their game against Negombo CC produced more than 70 overs on day 2 despite overnight rain at Kadirana. Ragama scraped through to 193 for the loss of 6 wickets at stumps. Kalhan Sineth and Nilochana Perera grabbed two wickets apiece while Saminda Maduranga top-scored for the visitors with 73 runs. Eranga Rathnayake contributed with 30 runs.

135-run opening stand between Imal Liyanage and Vishwa Kanchuka ensured Air Force SC gaining the first innings lead over Bloomfield C & AC at Katunayake. Imal and Vishwa scored 79 and 69 respectively as Air Force were 205 for the loss of 3 wickets in reply to Bloomfield’s first innings score of 197 runs. Tailender Tharindu Rathnayake scored vital 61 runs early on day 2 though Dushan Vimukthi and Rajitha Lakmal captured 3 wickets each for the hosts.

Peterite left-arm spinner Sahan Nanayakkara wrecked through the strong Colts batting line up with a brilliant 7-wicket haul as the boys from Moratuwa registered a crucial first innings win at Tyron Fernando Stadium. Resuming from their overnight score of 118/2, Colts collapsed drastically to the bowling of Sahan Nanayakkara as they were bundled out for 156 runs. Sahan gave away only 32 runs to take his 7 wickets. Heavy rains disrupted play on many times.

Navy SC are on verge of registering a memorable outright win over the defending champions, Tamil Union as the Sailors completely dominated 2nd day’s play at Welisara. Benedictines, Yohan Soysa and Sameera Sandamal shared 7 wickets to dismiss the visitors for a mere 94 runs in their 1st innings. Following on, Tamil Union ended day 2 on 141/5 with Manoj Sarathchandra top scoring with 52 runs and Ron Chandragupta not out on 39..
