The second match in plate category between CWW Kannangara and D.S. Senanayake was worked off last evening at the C R and FC grounds.
The match took off with DS making the kick off. Five minutes into the game Kannangara took the lead with a quick tap and well worked line, passing onto full back Lahiru Lakshan to score the first try conversion by the Malka Madhushan went wide of the right post.( CWW 05 – DS 00)
The start also saw DS No. 11 Chomada Perera getting a Yellow Card for a high tackle, resulting in DS starting with one man short. Later again Kannaangara managed to find a blind side move from the ruck with one pass to Lahiru Lakshan their play maker who was outstanding throughout the league sealed their second try. Madhushan nailed the conversion (CWW 12 – DS 00)
After a great passage of play, Kannangara storm from their 40m into DS territory giving Captain Dinesh Lakmal to score the try, which was followed by a missed conversion by Madushan. (CWW 12 – DS 00)
A few minutes later, the men in maroon were awarded with a Penalty which saw skipper Lakmal taking it quickly to dash to the touch line. Unfortunately Madushan failed to add the extra points. (CWW17 – DS 00)
Just as DS acquires the ball following Kannanagara’s unsuccessful penalty, Kannaangara however, manage to retain the ball in their hand and manage to gain back possession and score once again from the captain Lakmal in the blink of an eye followed by another miss conversion before the lemons.
Half Time (CWW 22 DS 00)
Few minutes into the second half of the game Dons finally saw their first try with their scrum half Dilshan Lakshitha earning it for DS, as a penalty try. This was followed by full back Thilakaratne making a successful conversion. (CWW 22 – DS 07)
After a long lapse in the second half Kannangara managed to get onto a try through last year’s captain Malka Madushan, following a successful conversion by the current year captain. Scrum half Lakma Kannangara managed a beautiful dummy to make the last try for Kannangara, and take home victory with a final score of 34-07
