After an enthralling 5 weeks in the second best category of schools rugby CWW Kannangara & Prince of Wales` from 1B will fight for the plate championship along with the other qualifiers from 2B that is Mahanama & Ananda College respectively.
CWW Kannangara College outclassed Prince of Wales` College yesterday at CR & FC grounds. 46 – 24 was the final score in an action packed game where Kannangara kept their unbeaten tag alive to compete in the plate category. In week four they beat Thurstan College 39 – 14 and now they will have a real test against Wesley, D.S. Senanayake, Ananda and Mahanama colleges respectively. Three wins out of four will earn them a chance to play in the top tier next season.
Prince of Wales` College remains second in their group (1B), after their unbeaten streak came to an end yesterday to CWW Kannangara. However, they beat St. Sylvester’s College last week 17 – 03 and they will face a real challenge when they meet Ananda, Wesley, D.S.Senanayake and Mahanama in the plate category.
Lalith Athulathmudali College made a strong statement by beating Thurstan College 15 – 10 in week 5. They will be playing in the Bowl championship and they will remain in the segment 1B next year with a great performance this season.
Mahanama College became the group leaders in 2B after winning all five matches they played. It was expected to be an even-stevens game with Ananda College but Mahanama won convincingly at the end of the game for 37 points to 17. Therefore both these schools will play in the plate championship with CWW Kannangara, Prince of Wales`, St. Anthony’s and Dharmaraja College.
Nalanda, St. Benedicts, Lumbini and St. John’s Colleges will play for the bowl championship along with Thurstan, St. Sylvester’s, Piliyandala central and Lalith Athulathmudali and the winner of 1C (Vidyartha College) & winner of 2C (Zahira College)
