Sri Lanka’s cricketers have not signed their contracts yet and so far they have not given any reason for it nor issued any official explanations for not doing so.

Nuski Mohamed the Treasurer of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) told Ceylon Today that he personally took the contracts to Dhaka during the Asia Cup cricket tournament and handed over the contracts to the cricketers.

“Various people say different things about the contract but we have not received any intimation from the cricketers yet. They have to sign the contract or if they have to say something they must do so officially in writing to SLC,” noted Mohamed.

When asked who is responsible to issue any response to the contracts Mohamed said that they can send their replies and recommendations to amendments on the contract through their manager or captain which they have not done so up to now.

The Sri Lanka team that won the World Twenty20 Trophy recently will be presented with US$ 1.5 million that will be shared among the players. Whether the money will be shared equally or not will be decided upon by the players itself. But as this is a team sport every player has the right for an equal share of the prize.

On their return, all Sri Lankans witnessed the welcome that was extended to a hero on a red carpet. They were paraded on an open hood bus from the airport to the Temple Trees to meet the president Mahinda Rajapaksa and preceded to Galle Face green.

Although there have not been any commitments of more financial gifts to be presented to the cricketers, the President was seen on television channels presenting a small box to each player when he received them. No one has revealed what was in that box.

No one else has mentioned about any more presentations, not even from the Sports Minister.

On the other hand, if India had won the title they would have been showered with cash rewards from every corner of the country.

These gifts would add up to millions of Indian rupees that would be more than enough for the rest of their lives.

However, this win by Sri Lanka does not seem to be good enough for such rich rewards and are waiting for the Sri Lanka team to win the cricket World Cup that is scheduled to take place next year.
