“This clarification is imperative since an impression is being created in a section of media that Srinivasan’s role as the BCCI’s representative in the ICC is still intact,” he added.
Rajasthan Cricket Association official Mehmood Abdi on Tuesday claimed that BCCI president N. Srinivasan was not eligible to represent the board in the International Cricket Council.
Srinivasan was recently directed by the Supreme Court to step aside from his position following a petition filed by the Cricket Association of Bihar.
Abdi, who is president of the Shriganganagar District Cricket Association, added, “In view of this clear direction of the honourable apex court, N. Srinivasan cannot represent BCCI at the ICC since he, being an India Cements employee, is barred by the Supreme Court order to be associated with any assignment of duties by the BCCI. This clarification on the part of the interim president of the BCCI is imperative since an impression is being created in a section of the media that Srinivasan’s role as the BCCI’s representative in the ICC is still intact.”
Abdi said: “In its concerned order the hon’ble apex court has described Mr. N. Srinivasan as the Managing Director of the India Cements Limited and as such he is employed by India Cements.” The Supreme Court order says: “We also direct that till we deliver the judgement, none of the employees of India Cements Limited or its associate companies (except cricket players or commentators) will perform any of the duties assigned to them by the BCCI.”
