The CCC put up a stunning performance to bundle out the Tamil Union team for a modest 215 runs on the opening day of their SLC Premier League tournament Super Eight match which commenced at the Colts ground in Havelock Park today.
Right arm fast bowler Chaturanga Kumara turned out to be the hero for the CCC as he ripped through the Tamil Union top order with a hostile spell of bowling which helped him to return excellent figures of four wickets for 49 runs.
In addition the two spinners Dinuka Hettiarachchi and Lakshan Rangika provided the back up support while capturing two wickets each.
Tamil Union would have even struggled to get closer towards the two hundred run mark if not for two fighting half centuries from skipper Jeevan Mendis and all rounder Nisala Tharaka.
Mendis played a real captain’s innings as he went on to hit a top score of 77 runs from 102 deliveries inclusive of one six and a dozen of boundaries while Tharaka batting at number ten struck an unbeaten 51 from just 46 deliveries studded with one six and eight boundaries.
Meanwhile the NCC also made a great start to their match while bowling out Ragama CC for a paltry 164 runs on the opening day of their SLC Premier League tournament Super Eight fixture which began at Braybrooke Place today.
Promising right arm off spinner Tharindu Kaushal was in tremendous form as he almost single handedly destroyed the Ragama CC batting with a magnificent spell of seven wickets for 79 runs.
Ragama CC who were put into bat struggled for runs throughout the innings as they lost wickets at regular intervals with only Lahiru Milantha and Ian Daniel providing some resistance.
The NCC openers skipper Upul Tharanga and wicket keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella then took their side off to a flyer while reaching 27 for no loss from just four overs.
Sri Lanka Army Sports Club produced a splendid performance to restrict Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC to 259 runs for seven wickets in their first innings on the opening day of their SLC Premier League tournament Super Eight match which got underway at Maitland Crescent today.
Right arm off spinner Lakshan Madushanka had the satisfaction of claiming his second five wicket haul for the season as he returned outstanding figures of five wickets for 72 runs from 18.2 overs.
Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC of course made a fantastic start to their innings after they were put into bat with the openers Gayashan Weerasekera and Mahela Udawatta putting on 108 runs from 24.2 overs.
Former Sri Lanka opening batsman Mahela Udawatta missed out a century by just three runs having collected his runs from 126 deliveries inclusive of twelve boundaries.
However after their departure Army SC took control of the situation through Lakshan Madushanka who ripped through the Ports Authority middle order despite a fighting half century from skipper Ashan Priyanjan.
Meanwhile the SSC produced a good all round performance to take major honours on the opening day of their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Super Eight match against Moors SC which commenced at the NCC ground in Maitland Place today.
SSC who decided to field first after winning the toss rallied around magnificently through some consistent bowling to reduce their opponents to 263 runs for seven wickets at stumps.
Opening bowler Kasun Madushanka and Dasun Shanaka captured two wickets each while Dilhara Fernando, Upul Bandara and Kaushal lokuarachchi had one wicket each.
Skipper Janaka Gunaratne hit a top score 64 runs for the Moors SC from 103 deliveries and with the help of four boundaries
