CCC created a major sensation as they cruised to a smashing seven wicket outright victory over the more fancied Ragama CC with more than a day to spare in their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Super Eight match which concluded at the NCC ground in Maitland Place today.
Ragama CC who were trailing by 111 runs on the first innings managed to score only 218 in their second attempt with the two spinners Malinga Bandara (4 for 82) and Sajeewa Weerakoon (3 for 60) causing the damage.
As a result CCC were left with an easy victory target of 138 runs and they were home in just 25 overs with former Sri Lanka youth cap Lasith Abeyratne stroking an unbeaten half century from 73 deliveries inclusive of three sixes and five boundaries.
Badureliya v Panadura
Meanwhile Badureliya CC were well poised to pull off an outright victory following another dominant day in their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Plate Championship match which continued at Katunayake today.
After having built up a commanding first innings lead of 121 runs Badureliya CC produced another splendid performance on the field to dismiss their opponents for a modest 197 runs in their second attempt.
Panadura SC were always under pressure as they lost wickets at regular intervals with only opener Malith Chaturanga offering any kind of resistance by compiling a stubborn half century with the aid of one six and half a dozen of boundaries.
Badureliya CC needing only 78 runs for an outright victory finished the day at 19 runs for the loss of one wicket and look set to wrap up the game before lunch on the third and final day.
Moors v Ports
Moors Sports Club moved closer towards an outright victory after dominating the third day of their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Super Eight match against the Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC which continued at the Colts ground in Havelock Park today.
Ports Authority CC chasing a massive victory target of 437 runs slumped to 136 for 5 wickets in their second innings against some accurate bowling from Irosh Samarasooriya, Malinda Pushpakumara, Dilhara lokuhettige and Shehan Jayasuriya.
Earlier Moors SC recovered well from an early setback to declare their second innings at 261 for nine wickets with middle order batsman Harsha Cooray hitting a top score of 66 from 122 deliveries inclusive of seven boundaries.
But it was their last wicket pair of Suresh Niroshan and Malinda Pushpakumara who really frustrated the opposition while putting on a stubborn 80 runs partnership under pressure.
Bloomfield v Air Force
Meanwhile Bloomfield were in a strong position in their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Plate Championship match against Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club which continued at the Panadura Esplanade today.
The Airmen who were given a tough victory target of 409 runs have already lost a wicket in their second innings as they finished at 46 for one from eleven overs.
This was after Bloomfield had consolidated their position and declared their second innings at an impressive 298 for five wickets with dashing opener Dilshan Munaweera smashing a 34 ball 52 inclusive of one six and ten boundaries.
In addition middle order batsmen Dilhan Cooray and Janudika Sriyapala added a superb 156 runs for the fifth wicket with both completing half centuries.
Army v NCC
Sri Lanka Army Sports Club produced a remarkable second innings batting performance to stay alive in their SLC inter club Premier League tournament Super Eight match which continued at Braybrooke Place today.
Trailing by a massive 246 runs on the first innings Army SC fought back magnificently to reach a healthy 273 for 2 wickets in their second innings with Manjula de Zoysa stroking an unbeaten hundred with two sixes and ten boundaries.
Tamil Union
Tamil Union were struggling at 219 for 6 in reply to NCC’s first innings total of 436 runs on the third day of their SLC Premier League tournament Super Eight match continued at Reid Avenue today.
