Malaysia welcomes AGONG Cup 2014

After a lapse of 6 years the Agong cup Boxing Tournament will be on fire this year in Malaysia from the 9th – 15th March 2014 in Altor, Kedah.  Sixteen countries within the Asia Region including Sri Lanka will take part.

 

The Championships will be held in accordance to AIBA Technical Rules & AOB Competition rules with more intense competition and participation. Boxers who were born between the year of 1974 ‐ 1994 are eligible to participate in the tournament. The weight categories of 46‐49kg, 52kg, 56kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg and 91 kg will be included and welcomed to the Agong battle field.

The Agong Cup Boxing Championship was first held in 1996 at Seremban, Negeri Sembilan in Malaysia. However, for the past 6 years it was not being organized due to some unavoidable circumstances. This year the (Northern Part of Peninsular Malaysia) Alor Setar in the state call Kedah Darul Aman will welcome the Agong Champions, which is approximately 400 kilometers from the Capital City of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.

R M P Dharmasena of the Sri Lanka Army also the winner of the ABA National Championships in 2013 will represent the 49Kg category from Sri Lanka, along with CAP Madushanka of Vidiyal Sports Club an active boxing club under the MAS holdings cluster, will represent the 52Kg category. Madushanka is also the silver medallist of the National Boxing Championships. Last year National Champion APCA Jayalath of Sri Lanka army, will represent the 64Kg category. He has obtained much exposure and experience from the international arena during Taipei City Cup Boxing Tournament held in last year in Taiwan. Squadron Leader Prasad Wijesinghe, will act as the team manager and Mr. SPCS Jayathilake of Sri Lanka army will act as the Team coach whilst Mr. Ajantha Gamini of the Sri Lanka police who is an AIBA one star Referee Judge will the tournament as Referee and Judge.

The winners will be awarded Gold, Silver and bronze medals added value offering Diplomas.

Most importantly Mrs Nieva Embuldeniya, the Chairperson of AIBA Women Commission will be the supervisor for this tournament. Mrs Nieva has been appointed by the AIBA as the Supervisor for Agong Cup Boxing Tournament.

The Agon Cup 2014 will foster the good relationship among the boxing family within Asia, enhancing and exposing many boxers to the international arena.
