CCC pulled off a morale boosting innings and 196 runs outright victory over Badureliya CC on the third day of their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match which concluded at Maitland Crescent today.
Badureliya CC who had conceded a massive 317 runs lead to their opponents never looked like making a match of it as they collapsed for the second time under pressure for a mere 121 runs.
CCC’s pace spin combination of Arosh Janoda (4 for 45) and Lakshan Rangika (4 for 51) simply ripped through the Badureliya CC second innings through some fantastic bowling with the innings lasting just 32.2 overs.
Meanwhile the NCC had to settle with first innings points over Moors Sports Club in their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match which concluded at Maitland Place today.
Even then Moors SC had the satisfaction of dismissing the strong NCC batting line up for the second time in the match as they made a desperate attempt to pull off an outright victory despite the heavy odds against them.
In fact NCC were bowled out for 215 runs in the second innings with spinner Malinda Pushpakumara returning excellent figures of five wickets for 65 runs.
However Moors SC were eventually left with a tough victory target of 311 runs and they went through some anxious moments before reaching 147 for five wickets at the end.
Ragama CC took major honours over Bloomfield in their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match which ended in a high scoring draw at Braybrooke Place today.
Ragama CC who had already snatched first innings points on the previous day decided to bat the entire third and final day as they piled up a huge 400 runs for the loss of just five wickets in the second innings with Ian Daniel stroking an unbeaten century.
The elegant middle order batsman was in tremendous form as he smashed a sparkling 129 runs from just 109 deliveries with the help of five sixes and fourteen boundaries.
Ian Daniel also added 103 runs for the fifth wicket along with skipper Sameera de Zoysa who struck a fluent 54 from 65 balls inclusive of eight boundaries.
Chilaw Marians CC put up a fine performance to take first innings honours over Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC in their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match which concluded at Havelock Park today.
Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC chasing Chilaw Marians CC’s formidable first innings total of 393 runs were dismissed for 347 despite a fighting century from wicket keeper batsman Gayan Maneeshan who struck three sixes and eight boundaries.
Spinner Geeth Alwis (3 for 53), Umesh Karunaratne (2 for 65) and Saliya Saman (2 for 76) were mainly responsible for the damage as they were rewarded well for some accurate bowling.
Chilaw Marians CC then added more humiliation on their opponents by scoring an impressive 253 for three wickets in their second innings with Kanchana Gunawardena and skipper Sahan Wijeratne both completing unbeaten half centuries.
Gunawardena struck eleven boundaries while Wijeratne had one six and half a dozen of boundaries with the pair also adding 94 runs for the unfinished fourth wicket partnership.
Tamil Union had the better of SSC on the first innings in their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match which concluded at the P. Sara Oval today.
Tamil Union of course had an outside chance of collecting the maximum points when they captured three early wickets during the SSC second innings.
However they were deprived of an outright victory by skipper Tharanga Paranavithana who struck a solid 114 runs from 181 balls with the aid of one six and eleven boundaries.
