Irregularities galore at Schools Wushu C-ships

After it had revealed about misconduct in the School All Island Wushu championship yesterday, the organizers seems to have taken some measures to avoid such bizarre circumstance, yet most of the irregularity was there in the concluded championship at the Sugathadasa Indoor stadium last evening.

Saman Dammika who has failed in his exam for judges in 2010 acted as chief judge at the judge panel on day two where he was promoted as chief judge in the jury of appeal after “Ceylon Today” revealed the story on Monday .

Also players and spectators said it’s amazing that for the first time one particular school won a number of medals which is also a school, Wushu Association president acts as its principal.

Meanwhile, Director of sports B. A. Abeyrathne at the Education Ministry said he could take some action on the incident if somebody had forwarded a written appeal “

“I can take action after inquiry if anyone had forwarded a written appeal. Anyway if the complaint by newspapers is true I’ll be taking disciplinary action against them “said Abeyrathne.

National Wushu Association president Manel Darmakeerthi also spoke about the incident.

“We knew this will be full of irregularities like this. School association agreed to consult the national association when conducting the championship and take judges and technical support with equipment from national association and we were ready to provide those with free of charge. But, they didn’t even inform us. Unqualified people in school Wushu association have made this a business. Sports Minister and Education Minister should intervene to end this Wushu mafia “said Darmakeerthi.
