An impressive all-round effort secured first innings points for St. Benedict’s College in their drawn U-19 inter-school cricket match against St. Peter’s College at Kotahena today.
After putting on a decent 227 with the bat, hosts bowled brilliantly to bowl out St. Peter’s for 176 runs with Yohan Soysa (4 for 32) and Geethika Jayathilake (3 for 56).
St. Benedict’s first innings was decorated with two identical half centuries by Victorio Roberto (56) and Janindu Karunathilake (56). Sahan Nanayakkara was the pick of the bowler for Peterites with four for 66 while Taneesha Weerakoon added three for 35 runs to restrict hosts to a defendable score. But a poor batting effort saw Peterites conceding first innings points. At stumps, the hosts in their second innings were 177 for eight with Shiran Ratnayake making an impressive 80. Taneesha Weerakoon who had three scalps in the first innings, affected four for 39 in the second innings to finish with a match bag of seven for 64.
