After days of drama and a postponed school’s knockout, where the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union proposed to intercede to assist the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association to run the School’s Rugby in a more structured manner and planned to take control of the sponsorship and have control over the monies spent to which the SLSRFA took absolute exception and even went to the press with ugly allegations about the SLRFU, an impasse has been reached.

The Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) is reported to have had a cordial meeting today (31st Jan.) at  President’s House with His The President Mahinda Rajapakse,  the Principals of all Rugby playing Schools and the Officials of the Schools’ Association.

At this meeting His Excellency has requested the SLRFU to give all necessary assistance to conduct the Inter Schools’ Rugby 7’s Under-20 Division 1 Tournament as scheduled this weekend. Further, he is reported to have instructed, before the commencement of the League Tournament, to finalize the Sponsorship and propose a formula to work together for the betterment of the Sport.  His Excellency has also instructed the Minister of Sports, the Minister of Education, the Schools’ Association and the SLRFU to work out a Plan and implement it accordingly.
