The current T20 World Champions Sri Lanka will travel to India for a 3 match series before they go on to defend their crown next month at the big event. Before kickoff, let’s take a look at the T20 numbers between these two sides.
Since 2009
The two sides met for the first time in a T20 international in 2009 during India’s tour of Sri Lanka. At RPS, on 10th February, India beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets to claim the first win in a T20 against the Lions. Batting first Sri Lanka scored 171/4 which was successfully chased down by India in the last over. TM Dilshan captained the home team while MS Dhoni led the visitors.
Sri Lanka’s first win against India in a T20 came later that year in Nagpur which they won by 29 runs.

Recap of the last decade
After the first T20 meeting between the two sides, Sri Lanka toured India in late 2009 which included the only bilateral T20 series between the two sides. The series ended in a 1-1 draw with wins for both sides, for Sri Lanka at Nagpur while India won at Mohali.
In 2010 during the World Cup they met again at Gros Islet in a game which Sri Lanka won by 5 wickets. Two years later, the only T20 which was included in India’s tour of Sri Lanka ended in 39-run victory for India at Pallekele.
The last time these two sides met was during the 2014 T20 World Cup final which Sri Lanka was crowned the champions in a historical night at Dhaka.
